Tragic Loss of Sara Monger in a Single-Vehicle Accident: Community in Mourning

The Elkton, Virginia community is mourning the devastating loss of Sara Monger, a beloved member of their town, who tragically lost her life in a single-vehicle accident on Vine Street on October 28. This tragic incident also resulted in injuries to two other individuals. The profound impact of this tragedy extends not only to Elkton but to the broader community, serving as a somber reminder of the critical importance of road safety and the need for increased awareness regarding the risks associated with single-vehicle accidents.

Sara Monger, a first-year softball player at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), was a promising young talent hailing from Elkton, Virginia. She met with this tragic accident in Harrisonburg, marking a significant loss to the EMU community and the world of softball. Described as a hard-working and wonderful teammate by EMU softball coach J.D. McCurdy, Sara’s untimely passing has deeply affected those who knew her.

The accident also involved two other first-year students, Kendyll Eddins and Silas Gwathmey, who fortunately sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are on their path to recovery. The entire community is offering its heartfelt support to Sara’s family during this difficult time, and the EMU Softball team is especially in their thoughts.

EMU Athletics is honoring Sara Monger’s memory by holding moments of silence during its competitions. Grief counseling is being provided to those in need in the Northlawn Great Lounge as a means of support during this challenging period.
